What is Deep Sy?

Humor, and a life’s worth of stories about living as a blind man in blog post and podcast form. We will be laughing together at the absurdity of life in this world, particularly when that life is disabled. We will not be laughing about stereotypes of blind people. If you’re looking for those, you’re in luck! I can recommend to you any story about blind people in any medium since the beginning of time.

I post stories here every other week. And I have a podcast where I read audio versions of the posts, sometimes with additional thoughts or commentary.

Why Subscribe?

Paid subscribers get those stories and podcasts a month earlier, plus bonus podcasts every other week with listener AMAs, satirical disability news, and more! My readers/listeners are the only source of support for Deep Sy, so I’d love it if you pitched in!

But if you’re on the free list, I’m generally not writing about current events, so things won’t be stale by the time you get them. Plus, my writing is timeless, full of profundities that recognize no temporal bounds.

Subscriptions start at $50 per year. If you want me to like you more, you can also pay $7 per month or $150 per year. The weirdness of the available options is due to Substack limitations.

Why I Don’t Much Use Some Substack Features

I won’t use some Substack features like chat very often. The experience for people like me who use screen readers (the software people who can’t read print use to interact with computers via audio or Braille) is miserable. The back-end stuff I’m dealing with as a publisher could be better too. But the experience for consuming the content with a screen reader is passable. I’ll take this publication somewhere else if the latter changes.

Humor and my adventures in blindness

I'm a freelance editor, writer, writing tutor, and podcaster. Here, I write humor and stories from my life as a blind person. Elsewhere, my work has dealt with politics, religion, race, and other totally non-controversial things. He/him
