I’m back! Did you desperately miss getting Deep Sy emails the past couple months? OK, did you miss them a little? Did you… notice you weren’t getting them?
Well, regardless, here they are again!
After taking some time off, I’ve decided to mix things up a little (just a little) here. You’ll get a lot of what you’re used to from me still: funny personal essays on my adventures in blindness, and some disability-related short humor. But there will be a couple new formats of writing and podcasts coming as well. Plus I will probably have some non-disability-related humor in there too. Stay tuned!
We’ll start this Wednesday with my thoughts on using blindness as a metaphor for ignorance, foolishness, and a plethora of other negative things. Or, at least, we’ll start this Wednesday for the paid subscribers. Because something that’s not changing is they still get everything a month earlier in addition to the biweekly bonus podcasts. It’s my thanks to them for giving me financial room in my freelancer life to pursue comedy writing, something I’ve always wanted to do. Join them, if you feel so moved!
Recent Published Humor of Mine
Speaking of comedy writing, I did still publish a few things while I was off from Deep Sy that can tide you over until Wednesday.
- A number of pieces in The Squeaky Wheel, the disability satire publication where I have now been made an editor! Read all of those here. They include:
o “Blind Family Wonders How Sighted People Ever Lose Things”
o “Meta Smart Glasses Empower Blind People to Participate in Corporate Surveillance”
o “A Look Inside the Rise of Monster Powerchair Rallies”
o “We Tried All the Top Prosthetic Body Parts, These Are Our Favorites”
o “Uncle’s ‘Happy Birthday’ Post Once Again Omits He Wanted You Aborted”
- “Bluey Episode Pitches Rejected Because the Writers Are Cowards” in MuddyUm
- “I’m an Exhausted LinkedIn Scammer, Can I Please Just Have Money?” – in Dr. Funny, as part of a challenge to write humor in 151 words or less
- “Further Presidential Rechristening Announcements after Lake America” in MuddyUm
I’m very excited to be back for another year with all of you. See you soon, and happy reading!
Funny stuff!
