IMPORTANT NOTICE: I do not need you to open doors for me. I am perfectly comfortable feeling around for a second to find a door’s handle. Even feeling around a building’s front wall for several seconds to find a door, going the wrong way, and doubling back. Sometimes, that’s how blind people find things. It’s all 100% A-OK with me.
Sighted people, however, cannot stand to watch me do this. It’s pitiful, a blind person feeling around for something. You must help. Or you must not be seen failing to help.
